Ixsir’s optical illusion

Images from Ixsir, the new eco-friendly winery in north Lebanon i visited yesterday. Above ground is the old house once owned by the Bitar family. Below ground….well see for yourselves . Not unlike a James Bond villain’s secret lair, but the wine is better!

Location Batroun, North Lebanon

Annual Production 300,000

Wines

Altitudes (Rose, White and Red)

Grande Reserve (White and Red)

Area under vine 70 ha

Varietals Cabernet Sauvignon, Caladoc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Muscar, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Syrah, Tempanillo and Viognier

Typical Lebanese stone house you might think...

Nothing strange so far...

Then one descends into a world of steel, concrete

State-of-the art vats

Funky barrel room

Nothing goes to waste

Ixsir plans to plant six ha of vines around the winery. Other grapes are planted across Lebanon to achieve a variety of terroir.
